But most importantly: Wall Street Rides FAR is an amazing family-friendly day of riding through fall foliage to support the innovative, life-changing research being done by ASF-funded scientists.

Why Ride Far?

Autumn leaves, the lower Hudson valley, and a community coming together to change lives. That’s Wall Street Rides FAR, a glorious cycling event to benefit the Autism Science Foundation. The Wall Street community is joining together to take a stand for this important cause.

On Saturday, October 7 hundreds of riders—a mix of avid cyclists and weekend recreational riders—will venture from Saxon Woods County Park on a fully-supported journey of the scenic roads north of New York City. With a choice of three distances and challenge levels, from a 4-mile family ride to a 62-mile, hilly metric century, you’ll be supported—nurtured, really—by our volunteer crew. With rest stops every 15 miles, so magical we call them “Oases,” ample route marking, safety monitors at tricky intersections, bike techs, and sweep vans if you need them, our crew will take care of almost any need you can imagine, and a great many you never thought of. Wall Street Rides FAR is a leaf-peeping cyclist’s utopia.

Why do we work so hard to make this a great experience? Because you are supporting an incredibly important charity, the Autism Science Foundation (ASF). ASF supports funding and other assistance to scientists and organizations conducting, facilitating, publicizing and disseminating autism research. They also provide information about autism to the general public and serve to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders and the needs of individuals and families affected by autism. Learn more about their important work.

Beautiful autumn scenery. Building community. Amazing support. An important cause. The time of your life. What are you waiting for? Register for Wall Street Rides FAR today!

On the Ride

Wall Street Rides FAR will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017, beginning and ending at Saxon Woods County Park, 1800 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY. Free parking is available on site. About a month before the ride, you’ll receive a pre-ride guide that will include details on check-in and the day’s events.

Check-in begins at 6:30 on Saturday morning. The ride begins at 7:30 with, fittingly for a Wall Street community event, the “Opening Bell” that signifies the route is open for riders. You’ll have a choice of three tempting options*:

  • The metric century, a challenging and hilly, wonderfully scenic 62-mile loop up to Bedford, NY, across to Greenwich, CT and back.
  • The intermediate, a 30-mile loop to Greenwich.
  • The not-as-FAR, a 20-mile loop through wooded neighborhoods in White Plains and Purchase, NY.
  • The family loop, a 4-mile route through leafy, suburban neighborhoods. You’re welcome to double this loop for an 8-mile journey.

On the ride, you won’t just be fully supported; “nurtured” is more apt. Our extraordinary, volunteer crew will anticipate your needs as you ride each day. The route is amply marked and at tricky turns you’ll find crew to guide you safely through. Every 15 miles you’ll find an “Oasis.” More than a simple pit stop, it’s a respite from the road with lots of cheering and a variety of snacks, water and sport drink, toilets, medical assistance and bike techs. Our sweep vans have a way of appearing when you need them.

Wall Street Rides FAR will end with a closing ceremony around noon with great food and beverage, inspiration from members of the autism community, and a chance to meet some of the very scientists your fundraising is supporting!

FAQs

What is the terrain like?

Spectacularly scenic! The longer the route you choose, the hillier the terrain. The shortest route will have a few climbs; the metric century will have lots of challenges for more fit riders. Remember that it’s a ride, not a race, so take the time to enjoy the scenery as you ride!

20-mile: 1,234 feet total climbing

30-mile: 2,052 feet total climbing

62-mile: 3,878 feet of total climbing

How much of the money will go to the Autism Science Foundation?

We work very hard to keep production expenses as low as possible by soliciting sponsorships, donations and discounts for supplies. We are grateful to our sponsors who have provided over $100,000 in cash. In 2015, our sponsors’ support made it possible for 100% of participant donations to be delivered to ASF. Ultimately, the amount of money, and the percent return, depends upon how many people ride and how much each rider raises.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. You must meet these minimum ages:

  • 16+ on the metric century route
  • 14+ on the 30-mile route
  • 12+ on the 20-mile route
  • All ages are welcome on the family loop

All participants under 18 must ride with a parent or guardian; no more than two minors per adult.

What is the fundraising requirement?

Each rider must raise at least $500 to participate. (Families on the 4- and 8-mile route have a reduced fundraising minimum of $250 total for up to two parents and two children.)

Do I need to be affiliated with Wall Street to ride?

Absolutely not! While we are most grateful to the Wall Street community for its outpouring support (please visit our Sponsors page for examples), Wall Street Rides FAR is open to all.
